# Hona > Hona is the AI case manager for personal injury (PI) law firms. It keeps every client informed and in medical treatment, and it handles the follow-up work case managers cannot get to: automatic case updates by text, two-way client messaging, Lia (Hona's AI case agent, which runs a firm's own procedures and playbooks across the case), an AI Receptionist, and digital settlement payouts to clients, lien holders, and other parties on the case with Hona Disbursements (powered by Confido Legal). Hundreds of personal injury firms use Hona to keep hundreds of thousands of clients informed. Hona is built for personal injury firms and their staff: case managers, paralegals, intake teams, and attorneys. Workers' compensation, disability, and mass tort practices use it too. It works alongside the case management system a firm already uses, including Filevine, Litify, CASEpeer, Clio, MyCase, SmartAdvocate, Neos, Smokeball, PracticePanther, GrowPath, and Lead Docket, so staff do not switch systems. Clients do not need an app: updates arrive by text with a link to a case tracker, and an optional app is available. Hona was founded in 2021 in Orem, Utah, went through Y Combinator (W23), and raised a $9.5M Series A led by Costanoa Ventures. ## Guides - [Personal injury medical management](https://www.hona.com/guides/treatment-tracking): Why firms should be involved in client treatment, how to prevent gaps in care, what firms can and cannot do during treatment, and the metrics to watch. - [How to choose treatment tracking and medical management software](https://www.hona.com/guides/how-to-choose-pi-treatment-tracking-software): The types of tools, the questions to ask, and what to measure in a trial. - [Personal injury client communication](https://www.hona.com/guides/how-to-choose-pi-client-communication-software): How client communication works across a PI case, where it breaks down, and how to choose software. - [Case Status alternatives for personal injury firms](https://www.hona.com/guides/case-status-alternatives-personal-injury): How the main client communication tools compare and how to choose. - [AI receptionist for personal injury law firms](https://www.hona.com/guides/ai-receptionist-personal-injury): How PI firms answer every intake and client call, and where an AI receptionist fits next to an intake team. - [Personal injury settlement disbursements](https://www.hona.com/guides/settlement-disbursements): How firms pay clients, providers, lien holders, and vendors from trust, state rules on electronic payouts, and good practice. ## Products - [Lia, the AI case agent](https://www.hona.com/ai-case-agents): Runs a firm's own procedures and playbooks across the case. Lia answers client texts from the firm's FAQs and case information, follows clients through medical treatment with reminders and check-ins, flags missed appointments and gaps in care, works provider offices for records and bills, and hands off to a case manager when a person is needed. - [Client communication for PI firms](https://www.hona.com/personal-injury): Automatic plain-language case updates at each phase, two-way texting from the firm's number, a link-based case tracker with no app required, and translations. - [Hona Disbursements](https://www.hona.com/guides/settlement-disbursements): Pay everyone on a case (the client, medical providers, lien holders, expert witnesses, and other vendors) from Hona instead of by check. Clients get a secure link by text, verify their identity, and choose an instant debit card payout or direct deposit. An approver at the firm releases every payout. Money movement is handled by Confido Legal. - [AI Receptionist](https://www.hona.com/ai): Answers firm calls 24/7, screens new injury callers, recognizes existing clients, routes calls by the firm's call flow, and logs every call. Priced per call, not per minute. - [Integrations](https://www.hona.com/integrations): Case management and intake systems Hona connects to. ## Who it is for - Personal injury law firms, from small practices to high-volume firms. - Case managers carrying 100+ active clients who need treatment follow-up done without more phone calls. - Firm leaders who want fewer "where is my case?" calls, fewer treatment gaps, and faster settlement payouts. ## Key facts - [About Hona](https://www.hona.com/about): Team, history, and funding. - [Meet Lia](https://www.hona.com/post/meet-lia-ai-case-agent): Launch announcement and results. - [Customer reviews](https://www.hona.com/resources/reviews) - [FAQ](https://www.hona.com/resources/faq) - Security: SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA compliant. - Press: [Law.com Legaltech News on Lia](https://www.law.com/legaltechnews/2026/09/02/personal-injury-solutions-startup-hona-launches-lia-ai-assistant-/), [ABA Journal on Lia](https://www.abajournal.com/news/article/personal-injury-case-manager-hona-launches-ai-agent) ## Articles - [Reduce "where is my case?" calls](https://www.hona.com/post/reduce-where-is-my-case-calls) - [Track client treatment without adding paralegal hours](https://www.hona.com/post/track-client-treatment-without-adding-paralegal-hours) - [The PI metric most firms never track: treatment compliance](https://www.hona.com/post/the-pi-metric-most-firms-never-track-treatment-compliance) - [How the treatment phase affects PI case value](https://www.hona.com/post/treatment-phase-pi-case-value) - [AI Receptionist vs a legal answering service](https://www.hona.com/post/ai-receptionist-vs-legal-answering-service) - [Missed after-hours intake calls](https://www.hona.com/post/missed-after-hours-intake-calls) - [Filevine's free client portal vs Hona](https://www.hona.com/post/filevine-free-client-portal-vs-hona) ## Optional - [Brand kit](https://www.hona.com/brand-kit): Official Hona logos, colors, and brand guidelines.
